2 Arrests Made in Tyshawn Lee Murder

tyshawn1Chicago police have arrested 2 persons of interest in the execution-style, Chicago gangland murder of 9-year-old Tyshawn Lee.

Corey Morgan, 27, (pictured above center) and another alleged gang member Dwight Boone-Doty, 21, were taken into custody by Chicago police on Monday.

Police recovered 2 handguns during the arrests. Both men were charged with weapons possession by convicted felons. They are being held on $1 million bail each.

Tyshawn Lee was lured into an alley near his grandmother’s home and shot multiple times in the back on Nov. 2. One bullet exited the child’s face. A basketball that he carried to school every day was found near his body.

Authorities say the child’s murder was likely in retaliation for the Oct. 13 murder of Tracey Morgan, 25, Corey’s brother.

After Tyshawn’s murder, Corey Morgan was placed under surveillance by Chicago police, who spotted a handgun in Boone-Doty’s waistband as the men exited a Hilton Hotel on Chicago’s south side.

Tracey Morgan and Tyshawn’s father, Pierre Stokes, are rival gang members.

On Monday, Judge Adam Bourgeois Jr reminded Morgan and Boone-Doty that they were convicted felons who are prohibited by law from possessing weapons.

“I am consistent with gun cases,” the judge said before setting their bail at $1 million each. The high bails prompted loud gasps in the courtroom.

Tyshawn’s murder sparked a public outcry of shock and grief around the country. Thousands donated cash to fundraising accounts in the boy’s name.

Tyshawn’s mother, Karla Lee was criticized for buying a new car with funds donated toward the boy’s funeral costs. Karla also ttraveled to Las Vegas on the same day as Tyshawn’s burial.
