The winner of the 1996 Miss Universe competition said Donald Trump, who ownedthe pageant company until last year, body-shamed her and mocked her Latina heritage.
Alicia Machado, who won the Miss Venezuela pageant in 1995 and went on to be crowned Miss Universe the following year, told “Inside Edition“ last week that she faced verbal abuse from Trump “all the time” after she gained weight following the pageant.
“He called me Miss Piggy,” she told “Inside Edition.” “I was very depressed.”
He also openly derided her weight in a interview with radio host Howard Stern, describing her as an “eating machine.”
Machado said Trump also made fun of her English language skills and called her “Miss Housekeeping” in an apparent jab at her Venezuelan accent.
Machado’s interview came on the heels of a New York Times investigation into Trump’s private interactions with women. Machado told the paper that Trump publicly shamed her for gaining weight and invited dozens of media outlets to watch her work out at a hotel in New York City.
“After that episode, I was sick, anorexia and bulimia for five years,” she said. “Over the past 20 years, I’ve gone to a lot of psychologists to combat this.”
Trump admitted to the Times that he had pressed the former Miss Universe to lose weight.
Machado is in the process of becoming a U.S. citizen, and will be able to cast a vote in November’s general election. When asked if she would vote for Trump, she laughed.
Meanwhile, Hillary Clinton’s campaign tweeted at Machado after the interview, congratulating her on her impending citizenship.
Nearly right from when word first broke about Billboard planning a special tribute to Prince from his friend and legend in her own right, Madonna, petitions were launched to change the artist immediately. Despite the entertainers’ deep friendship (and at one time romance), Prince fans didn’t think Madge had what it took to properly pay homage to The Purple One.
Still, Billboard went ahead with their choice and the tribute went according to plan, with Madonna belting out a cover of “Nothing Compares 2 U” before bringing out Stevie Wonder for “Purple Rain.”
However, to the fans who left underwhelmed by Madonna’s Prince tribute whose protests and petitions fell on deaf ears, you need not fear. The BET Awards will soon be here to pay its respects and they announced their return in an incredibly explosive fashion. Mere minutes after Madge’s homage, the network tweeted a promo clip promising to do right by the legend when their award show airs Sunday, June 26.
Yeah, We saw that. Don’t worry. We Got You.
It’ll be interesting to see how BET plans to live up to the hype they just generated with a 15-second warning shot, especially when the BET Awards have a reputation of its own. The eyes are on you now.
It seems that Prince also enjoyed visiting the Caribbean, especially Turks and Caicos. Prince purchased a spot on the island of Providenciales in Turks and Caicos in 2010, but never got the chance to fully enjoy it before passing away last month.
Robert Greenwood of Christie’s International Real Estate says Prince had not fully moved in to the 10 bedroom and 10 bathroom mansion which sits on 10,000 square feet and includes a tennis court, 200 foot boat dock and its own private white sand beach.
It was sparsely furnished, Greenwood told TMZ, with a few items in the house from the “Purple Rain” movie, including a mirror and a few chairs.
Prince did have enough time to pain the driveway purple – his first task upon moving in, according to Greenwood. It’s current asking price is $12 million.
