Does Safaree Samuels plans to sue Nicki Minaji?

Nicki Minaj and Safaree Samuels went from longtime lovers to bitter exes and suffered one of the nastiest breakups in hip-hop. A new report claims Samuels plans to reignite their feud with a lawsuit.

For those who don’t remember, earlier this year, Samuels claimed both in interviews and in songs that he had a major hand in helping Minaj with her music and that he even helped pen some of her songs.

Now, according to TMZ, sources say Samuels plans to sue Minaj for royalties from her three full-length studio albums, Pink Friday, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, and The Pinkprint.

Sources also claim Samuels wants money from Minaj’s collaborations, like The Pinkprint records “Only,” which featured Drake, Chris Brown, and Lil Wayne, and “Feeling Myself,” which featured Beyoncé. Another track Samuels allegedly wants money for is Beyoncé’s “Flawless” remix, which featured Minaj.

A source claims Samuels isn’t just coming to court with a bunch of accusations. Samuels will reportedly present footage of him working with Minaj on music, as well as voice memos from recording sessions. The source claims Samuels will also present several witnesses to prove that he was a major contributor to Minaj’s music.

Samuels reportedly will also use the fact that Minaj named him as executive producer of her first two albums as proof that he had a heavy hand in her music.

Samuels has allegedly already secured lawyers and sources say that a lawsuit against Minaj is “imminent.”

Petitions on Raven-Symoné and Don Lemon Useless

raven-symone-don-lemonBoycotts against Raven-Symoné and Don Lemon may sound like a good idea, but according to Shadow and Act, the battle is over and done with.

Examining Symoné and Lemon’s recent string of controversial comments, the site points out that while folks are campaigning for their dismissal, the pair will ultimately end up still attached to their respective networks and shows, ABC’s “The View” and “CNN Tonight” on CNN.

“Why? Because of ratings of course,” Shadow and Act expressed as it referenced “The View’s” surge in ratings with Symoné as part of its panel. “You may hate her, but she’s the smartest move that the producers on “The View” have made in a long time. As of last month, “The View,” according to TV by Numbers, posted its largest total in viewers and women 25-54 in over 8 months, beating CBS’ “The Talk,” which had been topping “The View” for almost a year.

Since her arrival on “The View,” Symoné has generated headlines for her opinions on the show’s hot topics. Most recently, she caught major criticism for stating that she would not hire black people with ghetto names, in addition to seeming to support the violent treatment given to a Spring Valley High School student by a South Carolina resource officer.

“’The View’ needed Raven-Symoné because she is controversial (or it could be some sort of bizarre art performance or experiment) which means she’ll bring in viewers,” Shadow and Act noted while citing a report it did about Symoné in May. “People naturally gravitate towards controversy, said Sergio, the author of the article. “And the producers on the show knew exactly, in advance what they were getting with her. She’s no accident. They were not going to pick anyone who was safe and conventional. They intentionally wanted someone who would get people riled up.

Tidal Receives Backlash-Madd News

#tidalforall #spotify

Is Tidal for all? Artists involved with Jay Z’s streaming services have been turning their Twitter profiles turquoise and tweeting #TIDALforALL. But Tidal has been getting some major backlash with critics saying Tidal will only make the rich richer. Tidal critics go on to say that Tidal is too expensive for the average music lover. Critics say even a struggling singer won’t do well with the terms of the agreement.

Tidal’s big selling point is that it’s owned by artists. Jay Z, Kanye West, Madonna and other partners say they are taking control after feeling mistreated by services like Spotify and Pandora. But that just makes it seem like Tidal is more for the wealthy owners who already have huge bank accounts.

If nothing else, Jay Z has got the nation talking about music subscription services. Tidal, the music subscription service Jay Z acquired for $56 million through a purchase of Aspiro AB, has been covered everywhere from NBC’s The Today Show to NPR’s All Things Considered and everywhere in between. Not bad for the reboot of a high-definition streaming service that had previously — and quietly — launched in late 2014.

Jay Z defended his expensive tastes, comparing his wealth to Apple, Inc, CEo Tim Cook.

“I guess by having a conversation, and telling people what it is. That opinion came before we even explained what it was — “This thing is horrible! … What is it?” You know? You never hear Tim Cook’s net worth whenever he tries to sell you something. Steve Jobs, God bless, he had to have been pretty rich — nobody’s ever said, “Oh, the rich getting richer! I won’t buy an iPhone!” Yeah, right. It’s not about being pretentious; again, this is a thing for all artists.”

He also compared the TIDAL app to Spotify which charges users $9.99.

You pay $9.99 for Spotify, so why not $9.99 for TIDAL. We’re not asking for anything else, we’re just saying that we’ll spread that money to artists more fairly. We’re not saying anything other than that, and we’re saying that we’re in a position to bring light to this issue. We’re using our power that way.”

Blurred Lines Verdict Shakes Up Music Industry

The lines are no longer blurred. Nona Gaye, Frankie Gaye and Marvin Gaye III, children of the late soul crooner Marvin Gaye and the beneficiaries of his music rights who sued Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams in 2013 for infringing on the copyright of Gaye’s 1977 hit, “Got To Give It Up.”

So what effect will the “Blurred Lines” verdict have on the music industry?

That’s the question being asked after a federal jury in Los Angeles found Tuesday that the 2013 hit song “Blurred Lines” infringed on the Marvin Gaye chart-topper “Got to Give It Up,” awarding nearly $7.4 million to Gaye’s children

The case focused on the similarities between the song and the legendary soul singer’s 1977 hit. Jurors found against singer-songwriters Pharrell Williams and Robin Thicke, but held harmless the record company and rapper T.I.

Los Angeles composer and producer Gregory Butler said Tuesday afternoon that his friends and colleagues in the industry were stunned by the verdict.

“You’ve made it illegal to reference previous material,” said Butler, also a managing director at music startup WholeWorldBand. “I’m never going to come up with something so radically different that it doesn’t contain references to something else.”

Diane Sawyer Steps Down from ABC Nightly News

NEW YORK (CNNMoney): Diane Sawyer will step down from ABC’s flagship nightly newscast, “World News,” in August, ABC said Wednesday.

David Muir, the weekend “World News” anchor, will replace her starting September 2.

The announcement ends months of speculation about a transition at ABC’s anchor desk.

In a first-of-its-kind arrangement, Muir will not be the main anchor for big breaking news stories or elections — that spot will go to “Good Morning America” co-host George Stephanopoulos, who will have the title “chief anchor.”

Sawyer took over the “World News” chair in 2009, becoming the first woman to solo-anchor the famed newscast.

Inside ABC, Muir has been seen as her heir apparent for some time. That impression was cemented earlier this year when Stephanopoulos renewed his contract at “GMA” with no mention of a “World News” role.

“After wonderful years at ‘World News’ I decided it is time to move to a new full time role at ABC News,” Sawyer said in a statement.

Last week, with Sawyer away, Muir anchored “World News” for the full week.

The appointment of Muir, 40, to succeed Sawyer, 68, also represents a generational change for a television time slot sometimes stubbornly resistant to change.

“I can’t wait to continue bringing more of my specials to prime time and appearing on all ABC News broadcasts, as well,” Sawyer said. “And to my friends and colleagues George and David — congratulations. I look forward to exciting work together and great times ahead.”

Mona Scott Young Facing Felony Charges

It seems that Mona Scott Young the producer of Love and Hip Hop, is in the spot light again.  Scott-Young allegedly posted Stevie’s $25,000 bail shortly after he was arrested last week.

However, sources say that Scott-Young’s act of kindness may have backfired on her because Project Child Support has now grown suspicious of her relationship with Stevie.

According to the report, Scott-Young along with several other people and organizations associated with Stevie and the show were subpoenaed by Project Child Support in regards to Stevie’s child support debt. When subpoenaed, Scott-Young claimed that neither she nor her production company, Monami Entertainment have employed or contracted Stevie J for any reason.

Project Child Support doesn’t believe Scott-Young’s claim and they’re now accusing her of lying to protect Stevie from any legal ramifications in his child support case.

“I don’t understand how an executive producer of a hit television reality series does not enter into any agreements with the cast or any organizations contracted with the cast of a television production,” a rep for Project Child Support said in a statement.

“This is a felony child support evasion case, and helping someone commit a felony crime is a felony crime,” the rep continued. “We are going to cooperate with the federal agencies investigating this case and provide them with copies of all documents we received that are related to this case, including Mona Scott’s court ordered subpoena response.”

Reportly,  Scott-Young was accused of helping Stevie stay out of trouble when he was accused of attacking Joseline Hernandez and Scott-Young denied having any knowledge that their relationship is abusive.

Puff Puff Pass says Phillip Morris Marijuna Cigarettes

The recent Colorado State law legalization of Marijuana has sparked much debate of changing the national ban on Marijuana.  Phillip Morris, the world’s biggest cigarette producer, announced recently that they will join the marijuana legalization bandwagon and start producing marijuana cigarettes.

The new product will be marketed under the brand “Marlboro M”, the cigarettes will be made available for sale through marijuana-licensed outlets in the state of Colorado, and the state of Washington when it becomes commercially legal there later this year.

Serafin Norcik, Phillip Morris’ Sr. Vice President for Marketing said in an interview that the company has been high on the idea of marketing cannabis, and has been monitoring the market for some time. It was only when the recent legalization initiatives — winning in Colorado and Washington — that they finally made the decision to take a leap of faith.

Norcik added that they have begun contacting former drug lords in Mexico and Paraguay, currently the largest marijuana-producing countries in the world, for the possibility of setting up a distribution ring across the North and South American continents, to streamline the supply lines.

Since only tobacco products are currently banned in advertisements and promotions in the United States, Phillip Morris also has set aside a huge $15 billion advertising budget just to promote the new “Marlboro M” and are now negotiating with major networks and publishers, to start marketing the product to consumers in the beginning of 2015.

Norcik also revealed that a big initial push is planned around January next year, and have acquired most of the ad airtime for Superbowl XLIX. However, since marijuana will be legal only in Colorado and Washington during the 2015 Superbowl, all the ads will be blacked out in all other States and will only show a static “M” logo with smoke blowing in the background, for the duration of the ad.

Phillip Morris shares hit an all-time high on the marijuana news and shot up to $998.00 from $83.03 just a few hours after the announcement went public.
