St Louis Rams releases Michael Sam

Michael Sam at Sun Life Stadium on August 28, 2014 in Miami Gardens, Florida.

(CNN) — The St. Louis Rams announced Saturday that Michael Sam, who made history as the first openly gay player to be drafted into the NFL, has been waived and did not make the team’s final 53-man roster.

Sam, an All-American defensive end who played for the University of Missouri, made history when he was picked by the Rams in the seventh and final round. He was the 249th of 256 players selected.

Sam, at 6-foot-2 and 260 pounds, starred in college football last season. Besides being first team All-American, he was named the top defensive player in the Southeastern Conference, considered the nation’s best league. Teammates named him the team’s most valuable player.

The Rams’ move does not necessarily mean the end of Sam’s professional career. He could still be picked up by another team

Rihanna Stalker Arrested

Rihanna has had to deal with more than her fair share of stalkers, and the latest is a homeless man in New York City. A 53-year-old man named Kevin Mcglynn was arrested for stalking and harassing the pop superstar via hand-delivered and profanity-filled letters to her home in Soho. According to reports, surveillance cameras caught Mcglynn on three different occasions this month alone, delivering the creepy letters to an employee of the singer.

According to the New York Daily News, Mcglynn “repeatedly called her a b–ch,” and threatened to “bum (rush) in her apartment” in the letters.

The obsessed man reportedly went to her building on Lafayette St. in Manhattan around 6:30am and again after midnight on July 8. He made another visit on July 11 around noon, and was arrested at about 6pm that Thursday. The police were able to track him after he accidentally dropped his benefits card in the building. Court documents state that Mcglynn also sent at least four letters to her home in California.

“The nature of these letters (is) confusing. They all do indicate a personal relationship, as I indicated before, that simply does not exist,” Assistant District Attorney James Vinocur told the judge.

In 2013, a 26-year old from Massachussetts named Robert E. Melanson was found guilty of trespassing after he was discovered on the roof of Rihanna’s home in the Pacific Palisades area of Los Angeles. He’d been there for roughly three days.

In December 2012, a man was found trespassing at her home in Barbados. He got within a few feet of the singer before security intervened. Shortly thereafter, another stalker attempted to break into her home but entered her neighbor’s house by mistake and slept in their bed, thinking it was Rihanna’s.

Houston Carnival Marked with Violence

Picture-3 The annual Houston Caribbean Carnival has grown into one of the nations most attended multicultural festivals during the summer.  The event traditionally takes place during the fourth of July weekend. This year’s festivities was marked with tragedy as revelers attending the annual Jouvert (Paint,Mud,and Water) fete, was abruptly interrupted by gunfire, which left party goers scrambling for cover. Four men are injured, two women were trampled in the meele trying to leave the scene, the shooter is still at large. Many Caribbean festivals are safe, especially in the Southern states, such as Atlanta and Miami. However, this year’s surrounding events did not have  adequate security, which created the opportunity for this tragic turn of events. There’s no real idea of what went wrong last night, how someone was allowed to bring a gun inside of a venue that held 5,000 people trying to party on the Fourth of July. There are reports of their being outside security and off-duty police officers but none of the 30 or so that were hired were inside the venue when the shooting took place.

Mona Scott Young Facing Felony Charges

It seems that Mona Scott Young the producer of Love and Hip Hop, is in the spot light again.  Scott-Young allegedly posted Stevie’s $25,000 bail shortly after he was arrested last week.

However, sources say that Scott-Young’s act of kindness may have backfired on her because Project Child Support has now grown suspicious of her relationship with Stevie.

According to the report, Scott-Young along with several other people and organizations associated with Stevie and the show were subpoenaed by Project Child Support in regards to Stevie’s child support debt. When subpoenaed, Scott-Young claimed that neither she nor her production company, Monami Entertainment have employed or contracted Stevie J for any reason.

Project Child Support doesn’t believe Scott-Young’s claim and they’re now accusing her of lying to protect Stevie from any legal ramifications in his child support case.

“I don’t understand how an executive producer of a hit television reality series does not enter into any agreements with the cast or any organizations contracted with the cast of a television production,” a rep for Project Child Support said in a statement.

“This is a felony child support evasion case, and helping someone commit a felony crime is a felony crime,” the rep continued. “We are going to cooperate with the federal agencies investigating this case and provide them with copies of all documents we received that are related to this case, including Mona Scott’s court ordered subpoena response.”

Reportly,  Scott-Young was accused of helping Stevie stay out of trouble when he was accused of attacking Joseline Hernandez and Scott-Young denied having any knowledge that their relationship is abusive.

Spurs Set NBA Finals Record Against Heat

On Tuesday, the Spurs returned to the location of their greatest heartbreak, where the Miami Heat snatched away what they felt should’ve been a fifth NBA championship with two crushing wins. San Antonio was able to move on from those miserable memories with a few three-pointers and dunks byKawhi Leonard, some unlikely runners by Danny Green, and a record-breaking shooting performance that resulted in a redemptive annihilation.

The Spurs will never be able to go back in time and make up for that disappointment, but they at least took a step toward getting the job done this season with a 111-92 victory that put them ahead two games to one in this best-of-seven series.

They came in with a desperation that we just didn’t match,” LeBron James said of the Spurs.

The team that claims a 2-1 lead after the series was tied at one apiece has gone on to win the Finals 30 of the past 36 times. But the Heat is one of the teams that managed to complete the comeback and claim the championship, as it did last season.

The Spurs won the first game of the series with the benefit of a broken down air conditioning system that successfully “smoked out” James, who was unable to finish after developing leg cramps. In Game 3, San Antonio provided a different kind of oppressive heat, scorching the nets with a record-breaking first half in which it shot 86.7 percent in the first quarter and 75.8 percent in the first half, entering the locker room with a 21-point lead.

Leonard scored a game-high 29 points to lead five Spurs in double figures. Popovich made the first major adjustment of the series, replacing Tiago Splitter in the starting lineup with Boris Diaw. The doughy Diaw gave the Spurs another facilitator and a versatile forward capable of defending and scoring on the perimeter. Popovich complained about the ball “sticking” at times in the second half of Game 2, but the Spurs were able to jump all over the Heat with more space to operate and more ball movement

“That will never happen again,” Spurs Coach Gregg Popovich said. “I mean, that’s crazy.”

Atlanta Daily Journal reports: Media maven Princess Dalton-Lofters summed up the sentiments and prestige of the Caribbean Amercicans honorees on hand — a woman who achieved great success in the male-dominated industry by creating and producing the “Real Housewives of Atlanta.”

“I’m a little overwhelmed. I was born in Jamaica and raised in Canada and now living in the U.S. The one thing that I do wanna say is that it is definitely … being born in Jamaica, being West Indian, has made me who I am,” she said. “I was raised with a certain set of values and mores and was built to make it in this industry. Growing up in Jamaica and then Canada and my parents being West Indian, they instilled in me to be who I wanted to be and to do what I wanted to do. And those who know me understand that I do not take ‘no’ for an answer, or that ‘can’t’ is something that I never embraced. I always embraced dreaming big and going after your goals.

“And I got a lot of ‘no’s’ along the way, and it took that drive in me that I attribute to be me being Jamaican and West Indian to make it in this industry. And for someone like me who has made it, I just encourage young women to follow their dreams (and) never, never, never take ‘no’ for an answer and to always go after what you want,” Dalton-Lofters continued. “Because, believe me, if you can dream it, it will happen.”

Miami Broward Carnival Open Letter

Dear Board of Directors of the Miami Broward One Carnival Host Committee

I can only begin by saying the following by the late Nelson Mandela;

2014 will mark the 30th consecutive year, Miami and Broward counties have played host to one of the largest Caribbean American Festivals in the nation.  The rash decision to change the date of the festival, not to Monday October 13, 2014, but an entire week later, clearly was not given much consideration.

I was once told by the Official Atlanta Peach Carnival Executive team, “You must respect the bands, you can not do Carnival without them”.  This word of advice has stayed etched in my mind, since 2005, and to this day, I believe it to be true.  The collaboration of the bands, troupes, artist, and carnival committee, is important to the survival of this cultural event. This historical change should’ve been address to the community, with feed back and input from the bands, troupes, and participants, prior to releasing or imposing a massive change of date.

It only angers the community, who has booked hotels, flights, and made other advance arrangements to attend the festival on Columbus Day weekend. An emergency meeting after the fact, also was not a good decision. It is evident, that based upon the NFL schedule for 2014, that Miami Carnival will not happen on October 12, 2014 at Sun Life Stadium.

Upon receiving this shocking news from the Sun Life Stadium, your organization, should have contacted an attorney, to simply draft a letter stating the reasons of this year’s change of venue. As a  minority, cultural, and historical organization, Sun Life Stadium can’t impose or impede on Miami Broward Carnival Committee civil rights, by federal law. Many are aware of Florida’s recent race and civil rights cases in the past two years; however the economic impact of the festival should have been motivation for your organization to move to a new venue.

“If you stand for nothing, you will fall for anything”

Culture Come First, Politics Comes After

The Columbus Day Weekend is not only a major holiday for Italians, however serves as a major significant Jewish Holiday, especially in South Florida. It is my belief that the Jewish community will never change, compromise, or waiver from this date, which serves as a start to the Jewish holiday calendar. Although Miami Carnival is not a religious holiday, the significance of the date, is important.

It seems that your organization was clearly ill advised, in this hasty decision.  The committee role in this festival is not about money, fame, and politics. Miami Broward Carnival Committee, like every other Carnival Committee duty, is to serve the community first, to ensure the cultural integrity of this historical tradition.

I personally don’t celebrate Mas; however I enjoy attending the festival, much like the tens of thousands of attendees that enjoy the colorful costumes, people, food, and cultural experience.

I encourage your team to come together and simply work with the community, to make the 30th celebration and enjoyable one on October 12, 2014. Please stay committed to your own slogan, “North America’s Ultimate Carnival Experience “…  Unless it’s too late…..

Broward Caribbean Carnival Inc. (BCCI) a Broward County Organization will host Carnival 2014 in Broward County.

The community outcry of the Carnival date change has forced BCCI to take immediate action in ensuring that Carnival continues to be celebrated in South Florida on Columbus Day weekend. as it has been celebrated over the last 29 years. At the request of many patrons, stakeholders, and masqueraders BCCI is securing a venue to host Carnival on October 12th, 2014 and continue a South Florida Tradition of Excellence in Mas.

Broward Caribbean Carnival Inc.

“Please note that the official Miami Broward Carnival will be held on Sunday, October 12. Please keep checking our website: for updated information about venue and other pertinent information about the 30th year celebration of Carnival in South Florida. Venue will be confirmed after a meeting on May 8, with bandleaders, promoters and other stakeholders in MBOC. Miami Broward Carnival Board of Directors and Bandleaders”

The St. Lucian times reports: A local taxi driver had to be rushed to hospital this morning after being stabbed by a tourist, eyewitnesses have reported.

According to the eyewitnesses, the visitor and his girlfriend were being transported from Marigot to a hotel in the North of the Island, when the unprovoked  attack took place near the Cul de Sac junction.

One eyewitness who came to the assistance of the wounded taxi driver told the Times the injured man reported that the male visitor was very cordial upon entering the vehicle, but later pulled out a knife and started stabbing him from behind.

The injured man was identified as Moses Bertram, who the President of the Marigot Bay Taxi Association Anthony Griffith told the Times has been a taxi driver for the past twenty years.

“I feel terrible because he told me this guy was so nice, and to see how he suddenly attacked,” Griffith said.

According to him, Bertram was stabbed in the chin, shoulder and hand.

Eyewitnesses said there was blood everywhere.

They also said they suspect that the visitor was “psychologically challenged.”

It was not immediately clear what became of the attacker.

The sentencing of entertainer Vybz Kartel and his co-accused Shawn Campbell, Kahira Jones and Andre St John has been delayed until Thursday April 3. In court on Thursday morning, the Judge Justice Lennox Campbell asked the defense team provide some pertinent information before going ahead with handing down the sentences.
