A former 911 dispatcher in Houston was recently arrested for allegedly hanging up on callers, and officials suspect she hung up on thousands of calls over a six-month period.
Crenshanda Williams, 43, said she frequently ended calls if she didn’t feel like talking and in one instance repeatedly hung up on someone reporting a fatal armed robbery, police allege.
An investigation into Williams was launched in April after her supervisors discovered a large number of the calls she had handled that lasted less than 20 seconds, according to charging documents obtained by PEOPLE.
After analyzing the Houston Emergency Center database, detectives learned that “thousands of short calls [had] been attributed to the defendant” between October 2015 and March 2016.
When questioned about the short calls, Williams allegedly told Houston police that she often disconnected calls if she wasn’t in the mood to talk. City officials tell PEOPLE she was fired on Aug. 4.
Williams was arrested on Oct. 4 and charged with two counts of misdemeanor interference with an emergency telephone call, charging documents show. She was released on bond.
PEOPLE was not immediately able to reach Williams for comment, and she does not yet have an attorney. She is expected to appear in court next week to enter a plea to her charges.

A 4-year-old girl was in tears after her experience in a McDonald’s bathroom on New Year’s Eve. She suffered minor injuries after pranksters poured glue on a toilet seat .
Kaya, 4, went to the bathroom by herself “like a big girl” at a Devon McDonald’s in England.
“Mom let me go to the toilet like a big girl and then there was like, two girls come out and then there was super glue on the toilet seat and it hurt,” she told SWNS News. “My hands and my bum didn’t even know that.”
Kaya’s mom, Nicole Langmead, said she waited outside the bathroom with Kaya and her other two children while the bathroom was occupied.
“We were just about to give up when these two girls came out of the bathroom laughing,” Langmead told the Exeter Express and Echo. “I didn’t think too much of it and Kaya went into the toilet.”
She said Kaya came out of the bathroom in tears.
She examined her daughter and found redness and irritation on her buttocks and hands.
McDonald’s workers comforted Kaya by giving her a balloon.
Police are searching for the 2 girls involved in the Mcdonald’s toilet prank. They are described as 16-to-18, one with long blonde hair and the other with shoulder length brown hair.
HOUMA, La. — A Louisiana man found guilty of impregnating the 11-year-old child of his ex-girlfriend will spend the rest of his life in prison.
State District Court Judge George Larke sentenced 27-year-old Joseph Riney Friday to mandatory life in prison without benefits, prosecutor Bud Barnes said.
Riney was convicted of aggravated rape Nov. 5 following a two-day trial that involved DNA evidence of Riney’s paternity. Riney was about 37 million times more likely to be the boy’s father than any other man in the black community, a State Police Crime Lab analyst testified. The baby had half of Riney’s DNA and the other half belonged to the girl.
Aggravated rape refers to the rape of a victim under age 13, among other factors, according to state law. A conviction prohibits the possibility of probation or parole.
Riney was arrested Jan. 22, 2014, following accusations that he forced the now 13-year-old child to have sex with him multiple times at her home in Houma until she turned 11. The repeated abuse resulted in the child’s pregnancy, and medical records show that she was about five months along at the time of Riney’s arrest.
Shortly afterward, the girl gave birth to a baby son who she gave up for adoption.
The 13-year-old girl is now a student a local middle school.
Defense counsel Heather Fairchild represented Riney. Throughout the trial, Fairchild questioned the validity of Riney’s DNA evidence, the thoroughness of the police investigation and the consistency of the girl’s statement in her arguments.

If you find yourself in a terror attack similar to the ones that hit Paris last week, do not play dead. With the growing threat of a major terrorist attack, it would be wise to learn some survival strategies. Even if you live in a major city that is bombed with either a nuclear, chemical, or biological weapon, it’s possible to survive a terrorist attack.
What to do in response to a fast-moving incident such as a firearms or weapons attack?
The advice is based on some evidence from victims of the assault on the Bataclan music hall, the deadliest site of the Paris attacks where gunmen fired indiscriminately at the crowd. Some were able to escape after playing dead among pools of blood.
But National Counter Terrorism Security Office (Nactso) says that “if you can see the attacker, they may be able to see you.”For those unable to find a safe route out, the guidance says to find cover from gunfire by hiding behind “substantial brickwork” or “heavy reinforced walls.” The document points out that cover from view does not necessarily mean you are safe as “bullets go through glass, brick, wood, and metal.”
Instead, the document urges those who find themselves in such an attack to:
- Escape if you can
- See something, say something
- Don’t under react
- Trust your gut
- Know your exits
- Run, hide, fight
- Consider the safest options.
- Is there a safe route? RUN if not HIDE.
- Can you get there without exposing yourself to greater danger?
- Insist others leave with you.
- Leave belongings behind.
- IMPORTANT: Live your life
