The Rowan County clerk, Kim Davis is refusing to surrender in a battle over who can and can’t be wed. She invoked “God’s authority” Tuesday as she defied a series of federal court orders and once again denied marriage licenses to same-sex couples.
Since the Supreme Court legalized gay marriage across the nation, couples have stood in her office and wept. They have shouted and called her a bigot. They have tried to reason with her.
But Davis, who usually wears a skirt that reaches her ankles and her hair to her waist, refuses to relent, even under the threat of a contempt of court charge, steep fines or jail time.
“She has found herself in a situation she never envisioned,” said Mat Staver, founder of the Christian law firm Liberty Counsel that is representing Davis in her bid to refuse marriage licenses.
“It is a heaven or hell decision,” – Kim Davis
After the Supreme Court’s landmark decision in June, Davis announced she would issue no more marriage licenses.
Four couples, two gay and two straight, sued her, arguing she must fulfill her duties as an elected official despite her personal Christian faith. U.S. District Judge David Bunning ordered her to issue the licenses, an appeals court affirmed that order, and the Supreme Court on Monday refused to intervene, leaving her no more legal options.
A five-month internal investigation on four Florida cops led to three of them being fired, and one of them resigning, according to NBC Miami. The officers reportedly sent a trailer-style video amongst themselves containing a Ku Klux Klan hood, attacks against minorities, derogatory images of President Obama and racist comments about Hispanics and homosexuals.
“I had a wet dream that you two found those n—–s in the VW and gave them the death penalty right there on the spot,” one of the texts reads. Many of their extremely hostile and racially charged conversations can be read at the Sun Sentinel.
According to another text, one of the officers said, “We are coming and drinking all your beer and killing n—–s.”
“There was no criminal behavior detected during this investigation, however, the four officers’ conduct was inexcusable and there is zero tolerance for this kind of behavior in the Fort Lauderdale Police Department,” said Fort Lauderdale Police Chief Frank Adderley.

Rolling Out Reports: Record breaking arrests have been made in what is being called the largest case of food stamp fraud ever seen in the history of the program. Federal and state authorities have arrested a husband and wife team, Brandon and Kimberly Sapp, and charged them with being the ringleaders of the crime spree. The couple set up at least 18 fake grocery stores throughout the state of Georgia in Atlanta, Macon, Marietta, Lithonia, LaGrange, Stone Mountain, Riverdale and Savannah in predominately black neighborhoods. The scheme involved the alleged illegal purchase of more than $18 million worth of benefits between December 2009 and December 2012.
Once the fake stores were set up, it was then that the couple had their team go door to door asking people if they wanted to trade their food stamps and WIC vouchers for cash. Federal and state authorities opened an investigation that lasted longer than two years because of the scope of the food stamp fraud operation. U.S. Attorney Edward Tarver said “When you steal from the federal government, it’s theft. These are programs that were provided by Congress to provide nutritional food assistance to the most needy in our society.”
Now more than 70 arrests have been made in the investigation. These arrests include 30 people indicted for selling their food stamps and WIC vouchers. Georgia’s public health commissioner Dr. Brenda Fitzgerald stated “This is a huge deal for Georgia … this is unacceptable behavior. This will not be tolerated in Georgia.”
There will be be no more cellphone selflies with President Barack Obama, thanks to Boston Red Sox star David Ortiz. Obama invited Ortiz and his Red Sox teammates to the White House last week to celebrate their World Series win.
Obama obliged Ortiz’s request to pose for a ‘Selfie’ taken with Ortiz’s self phone. Such selfies are normally uploaded to social media websites including Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.
But Ortiz’s photo op with the president was actually part of a pre-arranged deal between Ortiz and Samsung to promote the cell phone company’s phones.
Ortiz signed his endorsement deal with Samsung 2 months ago. After the Red Sox slugger tweeted the photo, Samsung retweeted the image to its 5 million followers.
During an appearance on CBS’s Face the Nation, White House senior advisor Dan Pfeiffer said Obama was not aware of Ortiz’s deal with Samsung.
“Well, he obviously didn’t know anything about Samsung’s connection to this,” he said. “And perhaps maybe this will be the end of all selfies.”
He added: “We’ve had conversations with Samsung about this and expressed our concerns.”
White House press secretary Jay Carney did not mince his words.
“As a rule, the White House objects to attempts to use the president’s likeness for commercial purposes,” Carney said. “And we certainly object in this case.”
In his defense, Ortiz claims the selfie was “spontaneous” and not part of his lucrative deal with Samsung.
This is not a good look for Keyshia Cole!
After her headlining tour in 2009 with the likes of TLC, Lil Kim and The-Dream, the singer failed to pay her taxes on that profitable year and now the federal government is demanding she pay it ASAP!
According to sources ther was a lien last November, the government is claiming Keyshia owes a pretty little sum to the tune of $162,158.93 to the IRS!
We’re sure that’s probably not too much for the Heaven Sent singer, but it does look like the songstress shouldn’t have cheated the IRS, those people are ruthless!
We hope you get this all settled soon!

Al Roker and Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal have a beef that is being played out in the national media and Twitterverse. Atlanta was hit with a snow and ice storm that shutdown the city and had a cascade effect on transportation in the southeast. At issue is the level of preparation of Georgia agencies and the level of response. Georgia failed miserably on both aspects. During a press conference on Tuesday, Deal directly contradicted the head of Georgia Emergency Management Agency about when it was clear an emergency was imminent.
Al Roker took exception to what the governor said.
“The mayor and the governor got on TV and said “Oh, this wasn’t expected,’ and that’s not true. “We were talking about this Monday that this was going to happen. They took a gamble; they didn’t want to pre-treat the road. I don’t think they wanted to spend the money and do what they needed to … this was poor planning on the mayor’s part and the governor’s part pure and simple … the roads are gridlocked and it’s a shame.”
Roker went on to write an open letter to Atlanta meteorologists. In that letter he stated once again it was not the forecasters but the officials who were to blame for not understanding the weather advisory system.
“One observation that has become apparent to me is that the public and perhaps some policy officials may not fully understand that a Watch, Warning, or Advisory has very specific meanings. They are not just generic ‘hey, be on alert’ or ‘hey, get ready’ warnings,” Roker wrote.
Because of the lack of preparedness thousands of people were stuck sleeping in their cars overnight and children had to sleep in schools across the Atlanta metro and outlying areas. The last time an ice storm of this magnitude occurred was in 2011, when Atlanta was shut down for four days. After the 2011 storm, promises were made that the city and state would be more prepared for future storms. Despite these promises and the purchase of new snowplows by the city of Atlanta, it still was not enough.
