The Robin Thicke “Blurred Lines” vs. Marvin Gaye “Got To Give It Up” ordeal has been come to an agreement this past week. The back and forth lawsuits, was based on the similarity of the songs, and Robin Thicke statements that the son was inspired by Marvin Gaye, which was produced by Pharell Williams.
Here’s the run down..
Robin Thicke releases monster song “Blurred Lines”. Said song has striking similiarties to Marvin Gaye’s classic “Got To Give It Up”. The Gaye estate sues Thicke. Thicke countersues the Gaye estate. Gaye estate then sues Sony/ATV publishing because the powerhouse song publisher actually represents both parties and the Gaye estate felt as though Sony/ATV were being far from impartial and siding with Thicke on the matter.
Terms of the settlement between the Gaye estate and Sony/ATV were not publicly released. However, the litigation between Robin Thicke and the Gaye estate is still ongoing.
