Super Bowl Ads Make Statements (Video)

The 2014 Super Bowl advertisements has been launched before Sunday, and its already started a debate about race, sex, and many other things. General Mills is set to air a new Cheerios ad featuring a biracial family during the 2014 Super Bowl. The first ad resulted in such racist vitriol that YouTube closed the comments under the video, and General Mills pulled the video from the site.

The new ad, titled “Gracie”, does not stray far from the comfort zone of the first ad. The actress who plays Gracie’s mom is pregnant with Gracie’s brother. The video is a warm and funny family scenario, where the daughter realizes she is no longer the center of attention, and have came offers a dad, one way out! A PUPPY!

A major controversy has already happen before the commercial has even aired. A MSNBC staffer was fired for tweeting:

“Maybe the right-wing will hate it, but everyone else will go awww: the adorable new #Cheerios ad w/biracial family.”

Nice head fake there, Cheerios. For a second it looked like the parents might talk to their daughter about the controversy surrounding their last appearance — and maybe even have a Conversation About Race In America. In an ad. For Cereal. During the Super Bowl. (Could you imagine

MADD FACTOR: In 2014 , people are still secretly holding reservations about race and sex in the United States.  This is very sad, and really un-call-for, I am hopful this ad does Cheerios well.
