Michael Jackson’s estate has agreed to sell it’s remaining stake in a lucrative music catalog to Sony Corp. for $750 million, the entities announced Monday.

The catalog included publishing for major names such as Beyonce, The Beatles, Bob Dylan and others.

via USA Today:

The agreement for Jackson’s half-share of the Sony/ATV Music Publishing catalog will give the company sole ownership of works by The Beatles, Bob Dylan and other hit making musicians, including Eminem and Taylor Swift.

The deal is another posthumous blockbuster deal for Jackson, whose estate has erased the singer’s massive debts through a mixture of new music and movie ventures and re-releases of the singer’s most popular music. Jackson’s estate benefits his mother and three children, known as Prince, Paris and Blanket.

“This agreement further demonstrates Sony’s commitment to the entertainment businesses and our firm belief that these businesses will continue to contribute to our success for years to come,” Sony Corp. president and CEO Kazuo Hirai wrote in a statement.

The sale does not include rights to Jackson’s master recordings or songs that he wrote, and the singer’s estate will continue to have a stake in EMI Publishing, Inc.

“This transaction further allows us to continue our efforts of maximizing the value of Michael’s Estate for the benefit of his children,” the co-executors of Jackson’s estate, attorney John Branca and music executive John McClain, wrote in a statement. “It also further validates Michael’s foresight and genius in investing in music publishing.”

Jackson purchased the ATV portion of the catalog in 1985 for $41.5 million, and he later merged it with Sony. It remained his most lucrative asset at the time of his death in June 2009 at age 50, though by that point Jackson was hundreds of millions of dollars in debt.

The deal for Jackson’s half of the Sony/ATV catalog is expected to close by the end of March.

We are not sure why the Estate ran by Michael’s mother sold the lucrative catalog, however that was a smart move by Michael to invest in publishing.

New Music Tuesday: Beyonce and Drake Can I

Grammy Celebration Coast to Coast

Sir Paul Mc Cartney rocks on at 2015 Grammy Awards in LA

Rolling Stone reports: Sir Paul Mc Cartney showed some moves onstage with Kanye and Rihanna, but his best dancing actually occurred earlier in the evening, when he grooved to Jeff Lynne’s (really great) run-through of “Evil Woman.” Macca rose from his seat, clapping and singing along, then worked a lithe little shimmy into the mix before noticing the camera in front of his face, throwing his hands in the air in mock apology and promptly taking his seat. It was a great moment, and not just because it was nice to see someone other than Taylor Swift have a good time at the Grammys. Unlike, say, Pharrell at last year’s show, Paul was considerate enough to think about whoever was sitting directly behind him.

Big Winners at the BET Awards

Robin Thicke
Robin Thicke performs at 2014 BET Awards

It was a night full of electrifying performances, emotional speeches and unforgettable moments at the “BET Awards” ’14 — also known as the “Black World Cup,” according to hilarious host Chris Rock — which aired live from the Nokia Theatre at L.A. LIVE on Sunday, June 29.

Pharrell Williams and Missy Elliott :BET Awards 2014

Pharrell Williams opened the show with an energetic rendition of “Come Get It Bae” surrounded by a bevy of cheerleaders, and was joined by surprise performer and fellow Virginia native, the amazing Missy Elliott, who brought the crowd to their feet to “Pass That Dutch.” Williams became a familiar face on the stage after winning both “Best Male R&B/Pop Artist” and “Video of the Year,” and again coming on to present music icon Lionel Richie with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Young Money and Beyoncé took home the most trophies with three awards, as did acclaimed film “12 Years A Slave” which swept the film award categories. Pharrell Williams and August Alsina each won two awards.

The tribute to Richie included a presentation of classics “Hello” and “Still” by John Legend and a pulsating rendition of “Brick House” by Ledisi. Just before Richie came on stage to accept his award, Yolanda Adams delivered a soulful, inspired performance of “Jesus Is Love,” bringing the crowd to its feet (and some to tears!) and prompting Richie to admit he was “glad [he] sang the song first.” Richie showed off his own skills when he sat at the piano and serenaded the audience with “Easy,” then got the crowd dancing along to “All Night Long.”

Chris Brown made a triumphant return to the “BET Awards” stage that drew a standing ovation. He proved he hasn’t missed a beat delivering an incredible performance of “Loyal,” which was amped up even more with appearances by Lil Wayne, Tyga and Travis Barker.

Father and rap mogul  Jay-Z was spotted with his daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, leaving Joey’s restaurant in Miami, Florida, after having lunch with his wife Beyonce on Tuesday, Jan. 7.

Earlier in the day, the family celebrated Blue Ivy’s 2nd birthday by renting out all of Jungle Island, a botanical bird sanctuary, wildlife habitat, and botanical garden. The family later left Miami by private jet and headed to Ohio for Jay-Z’s next show on his “Magna Carter World Tour.

Kelly Rowland is not inviting Beyonce to her Wedding

Kelly Rowland might be keeping things super simple for her wedding to boyfriend/manager Tim Witherspoon.

She tells PEOPLE,

“I think we just really want it to be us and our pastor. That’s it,” she says. “I mean, we are the only two that’s going to be in the marriage.

No Beyoncé? No Michelle? No lavish Hollywood bash? It doesn’t appear so.

She also says she’s not planning to spend tens of thousands on a big reception with a sit-down dinner for hundreds of friends or family, either.

“You have to pay for food for everyone and I’m not down with that,” she says with a laugh. “Everyone is there just to be nosy and see who I’m wearing, you know. I’m okay.”
