A former 911 dispatcher in Houston was recently arrested for allegedly hanging up on callers, and officials suspect she hung up on thousands of calls over a six-month period.
Crenshanda Williams, 43, said she frequently ended calls if she didn’t feel like talking and in one instance repeatedly hung up on someone reporting a fatal armed robbery, police allege.
An investigation into Williams was launched in April after her supervisors discovered a large number of the calls she had handled that lasted less than 20 seconds, according to charging documents obtained by PEOPLE.
After analyzing the Houston Emergency Center database, detectives learned that “thousands of short calls [had] been attributed to the defendant” between October 2015 and March 2016.
When questioned about the short calls, Williams allegedly told Houston police that she often disconnected calls if she wasn’t in the mood to talk. City officials tell PEOPLE she was fired on Aug. 4.
Williams was arrested on Oct. 4 and charged with two counts of misdemeanor interference with an emergency telephone call, charging documents show. She was released on bond.
PEOPLE was not immediately able to reach Williams for comment, and she does not yet have an attorney. She is expected to appear in court next week to enter a plea to her charges.

A black student who says he was profiled by Barneys NY for purchasing an expensive designer belt won a $45,000 settlement from the retail giant.
Trayon Christian said he used his debit card to purchase a $349 Ferragano belt at the Barneys’ flagship store on Fifth Avenue on April 27, 2013.
Christian said he was followed out of the department store and “hassled” by two undercover NYPD detectives.
The former engineering student at the New York City College of Technology said the police didn’t believe he could afford the expensive designer belt.
“They said my card wasn’t real, it was fake. They said someone at Barneys called to report it,” Christian told The NY Daily News in October 2013.
The detectives demanded to look in his bag, and they asked him if he was employed and where he worked.
“The detectives were asking me, ‘How could you afford a belt like this? Where did you get this money from?’” Christian told the News.
Not satisfied with his truthful answers, the detectives cuffed Christian and took him to the 19th Precinct stationhouse.
Two hours later police released Christian and offered a weak apology. They returned his belt and his debit card, he said.
In October 2014 Barneys paid $525,000 to settle other racial profiling claims.
Barneys’ business partnership with rap mogul Jay Z in 2013 tarnished the 47-year-old’s image in the black community.
A 4-year-old girl was in tears after her experience in a McDonald’s bathroom on New Year’s Eve. She suffered minor injuries after pranksters poured glue on a toilet seat .
Kaya, 4, went to the bathroom by herself “like a big girl” at a Devon McDonald’s in England.
“Mom let me go to the toilet like a big girl and then there was like, two girls come out and then there was super glue on the toilet seat and it hurt,” she told SWNS News. “My hands and my bum didn’t even know that.”
Kaya’s mom, Nicole Langmead, said she waited outside the bathroom with Kaya and her other two children while the bathroom was occupied.
“We were just about to give up when these two girls came out of the bathroom laughing,” Langmead told the Exeter Express and Echo. “I didn’t think too much of it and Kaya went into the toilet.”
She said Kaya came out of the bathroom in tears.
She examined her daughter and found redness and irritation on her buttocks and hands.
McDonald’s workers comforted Kaya by giving her a balloon.
Police are searching for the 2 girls involved in the Mcdonald’s toilet prank. They are described as 16-to-18, one with long blonde hair and the other with shoulder length brown hair.
HOUMA, La. — A Louisiana man found guilty of impregnating the 11-year-old child of his ex-girlfriend will spend the rest of his life in prison.
State District Court Judge George Larke sentenced 27-year-old Joseph Riney Friday to mandatory life in prison without benefits, prosecutor Bud Barnes said.
Riney was convicted of aggravated rape Nov. 5 following a two-day trial that involved DNA evidence of Riney’s paternity. Riney was about 37 million times more likely to be the boy’s father than any other man in the black community, a State Police Crime Lab analyst testified. The baby had half of Riney’s DNA and the other half belonged to the girl.
Aggravated rape refers to the rape of a victim under age 13, among other factors, according to state law. A conviction prohibits the possibility of probation or parole.
Riney was arrested Jan. 22, 2014, following accusations that he forced the now 13-year-old child to have sex with him multiple times at her home in Houma until she turned 11. The repeated abuse resulted in the child’s pregnancy, and medical records show that she was about five months along at the time of Riney’s arrest.
Shortly afterward, the girl gave birth to a baby son who she gave up for adoption.
The 13-year-old girl is now a student a local middle school.
Defense counsel Heather Fairchild represented Riney. Throughout the trial, Fairchild questioned the validity of Riney’s DNA evidence, the thoroughness of the police investigation and the consistency of the girl’s statement in her arguments.

If you find yourself in a terror attack similar to the ones that hit Paris last week, do not play dead. With the growing threat of a major terrorist attack, it would be wise to learn some survival strategies. Even if you live in a major city that is bombed with either a nuclear, chemical, or biological weapon, it’s possible to survive a terrorist attack.
What to do in response to a fast-moving incident such as a firearms or weapons attack?
The advice is based on some evidence from victims of the assault on the Bataclan music hall, the deadliest site of the Paris attacks where gunmen fired indiscriminately at the crowd. Some were able to escape after playing dead among pools of blood.
But National Counter Terrorism Security Office (Nactso) says that “if you can see the attacker, they may be able to see you.”For those unable to find a safe route out, the guidance says to find cover from gunfire by hiding behind “substantial brickwork” or “heavy reinforced walls.” The document points out that cover from view does not necessarily mean you are safe as “bullets go through glass, brick, wood, and metal.”
Instead, the document urges those who find themselves in such an attack to:
- Escape if you can
- See something, say something
- Don’t under react
- Trust your gut
- Know your exits
- Run, hide, fight
- Consider the safest options.
- Is there a safe route? RUN if not HIDE.
- Can you get there without exposing yourself to greater danger?
- Insist others leave with you.
- Leave belongings behind.
- IMPORTANT: Live your life

A Delaware woman was arrested and charged with raping her daughter’s 13-year-old boyfriend.
Elaine B. Goodman is charged with fourth degree rape of a minor, three counts of third degree rape, two counts of second degree unlawful sexual contact with a minor, and sexual solicitation of a minor.
The child told police he met up with Goodman after he sneaked out of his house late one night.
He said he and Goodman drove around the city, then parked in a secluded area and climbed into the back seat together.
He told a children’s advocate social worker that he and Goodman kissed and undressed before he “took his you-know-what and put it in her you-know-what.”
He said they had sexual intercourse until 4:30 a.m. Then Goodman dropped the boy off at home so she could get ready for work.
Goodman told a friend she was attracted to the youngster whose physical maturity made him appear older than his stated age.
“He is so cute with a nice ass body,” Goodman allegedly texted a friend. “I asked him what in the world are u doing with a body like that at 13.”
The Delaware Police Dept. built its case largely on the text messages exchanged between Goodman and the child and Goodman and her friend.
NEW YORK, United States (AFP) — Serena Williams chased down a would-be telephone thief at a Chinese restaurant that had the 34-year-old American tennis star comparing herself to Supergirl.
The 21-time Grand Slam singles champion detailed her adventure Wednesday in a Facebook posting complete with her wearing a Supergirl outfit and sending a message for people to channel their inner superhero.
And another message was clear — mess with Serena Williams at your own peril.
“Soooooo yesterday (Tuesday) at dinner the CRAZIEST THING happened to me. I was sitting enjoying some Chinese food and this guy stands next to me,” world number one Williams said.
“And something (I have now dubbed it my SUPERHERO sense) told me to watch him. My phone was sitting in the chair but I just didn’t feel right.
“Low and behold, this common petty thief grabbed my phone and swiftly left. I looked at the chair, than shouted ‘Omg that dude took my phone!!'”
“Not thinking I reacted, I jumped up, weaved my way in and out of the restaurant and chased him down. He began to run but I was too fast. I was upon him in a flash!
“In the most menacing yet calm no nonsense voice I could muster I kindly asked him if he ‘accidentally’ took the wrong phone. While he was thinking of the right thing to say and eventually he said ‘Gosh you know what I did! It was so confusing in there. I must have grabbed the wrong phone’.”
The matter left Williams pondering her own super powers.
“Superhero? Maybe? Or HELL YEA!!” Williams said. “I’ve got the speed the jumps, the power, the body, the seduction, the sex appeal, the strength, the leadership and yet the calm to weather the storm. Always listen to your superhero inner voice. Fight for what’s right. Stand for what you believe in! Be a superhero!
“When I got back into the restaurant I received a standing ovation. I was proud. I just showed every man in there I can stand up to bully’s (sted) and other men. It was a win for the ladies! Just because you are a lady don’t be afraid to step up to any challenge and not be a victim but a hero!”
Williams has not played since losing a US Open semi-final to Italy’s Roberta Vinci, costing her a chance at a calendar year Grand Slam.
